The Crisis in Buenaventura
This report done with Human Rights Watch in March, 2014 documents the crisis of human rights in Buenaventura, Colombian’s main port on the Pacific Ocean. In Buenaventura, neo-paramilitary militias and criminal gangs commit widespread abuses, including forced disappearances, forced displacement, rape and the dismemberment of people while still alive in “chop up” houses. The report revealed this atrocious situation, catalyzing an extraordinary amount of media attention. Most importantly, the report moved the Colombian government to augment security forces on the ground and to bolster judicial institutions in Buenaventura, thus saving lives. To view the report “The Crisis in Buenaventura” download here.
